The raising of the young man announces to the village of Nain and to all who hear of his miracle that a new day has dawned.

Jesus' self-confidence and the assurance that he offers his dsiciples remain efficacious for each of us today who hears these words.

This passage is linked to the reference of Jesus as living water.

Oneness is the theme of Jesus' prayer.  The oneness he shares with the Father he wishes for his disciples and for all who embrace the faith because of them.

The Saducees try to trap Jesus with a question about seven brothers and their marriage status at the resurrection.  He deflects their trap by discounting marriage status in this world being important during the resurrection. A Samaritan is part of a group of 10 lepers whom Jesus cleansed. When a rich man comes to Jesus and asks what he needs to do get to heaven. Jesus tells him to sell his possessions and give to the poor. Later Jesus tells his disciples how hard it is for a rich man to enter the kngdom of God.  Wealth is an illusion; only God provides security in this life and the next.

After the miracle of the loaves and fishes the crowd comes looking for another miracle. They even ask for the manna in the desert that their ancestors were given. Jesus stuns them with his pronouncement that He is the bread that doesn't perish but endures for eternal life.

People flocked to Jesus in great numbers, anticipating his arrival even at remote places.  "... they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach ..."

Jesus prepares his disciples to spread the word of God. Don't be weighed down by what you think are essentials; the ony necessity is to entrust yourself to the mercy of God.

After 12 years of suffering a sickly women sneaks through a crowd to only touch the cloak of Jesus.  Immediately she feels a healing power come to her.  Jesus senses the touch and turns, asking who touched him. Trembling for fear of punishment or loss of the healing she falls before Jesus and confesses her action.  He says, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."

Jesus appeared to his disciples and they rejoiced. He makes them apostles but by imparting the Holy Spirit he is also giving them the assurance that they will be able to carry out their mission.  He breathed new life into them, life in the Spirit, empowering them to carry on his mission of healing and reconciling.
