With the empty tomb, God shows himself definitively in salvation history as the God of the living, inviting all believers into the newness of life offered in the Death and Resurrection of Christ.

Today's Gospel is about the cleansing of the Temple of Jerusalem.  Jesus is notably upset with the use of the Temple area to buy and sell animals. In closing the story, John notes the use of symbolism by Jesus to liken his body to a Temple.

The Saducees try to trap Jesus with a question about seven brothers and their marriage status at the resurrection.  He deflects their trap by discounting marriage status in this world being important during the resurrection. The crowds grumble because Jesus goes to eat at the home of whom whom they believe to be a sinner, a tax collector.  Zacchaeus commits to a new life because he has found Jesus.  The Son of Man who sought him saved him.

A Samaritan is part of a group of 10 lepers whom Jesus cleansed. While all were happy at their cure, only one ... a foreigner, a Samaritan ... fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.  Jesus again shows his love by declaring his salvation.  The Samaritan goes on his way knowing that his faith brings him salvations's wholeness.  Neither religious nor ethnic backgrounds pose obstacles to salvation.

When a rich man comes to Jesus and asks what he needs to do get to heaven. Jesus tells him to sell his possessions and give to the poor. Later Jesus tells his disciples how hard it is for a rich man to enter the kngdom of God.  Wealth is an illusion; only God provides security in this life and the next.

After 12 years of suffering a sickly women sneaks through a crowd to only touch the cloak of Jesus.  Immediately she feels a healing power come to her.  Jesus senses the touch and turns, asking who touched him. Trembling for fear of punishment or loss of the healing she falls before Jesus and confesses her action.  He says, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."

Mark seems to be teling us that the presence of God in Jesus is so great that it cannot be hidden.
